promovolve

An open-source ad serving platform that matches ads to the content of the page. It does not track readers and uses no cookies or user profiles.

Features

Ads chosen by page content

An LLM reads the text of the page where the ad will appear and serves ads from matching categories. Readers’ browsing history and attributes are not used.

Publishers approve every ad

Publishers review ads before they serve, and only approved ads appear on the site. Ads can also be blocked by domain.

Ads that don’t get in the way

Ads sit compactly within the page and open full-screen only when a reader taps them. Readers can bookmark ads they like and come back to them later.

Simple bidding

promovolve uses a quality-adjusted second-price auction. Advertisers only need to bid what they think the ad space is worth.

Ads generated from a URL

Enter a landing-page URL and the ad creative is built automatically. There is no need to prepare assets for each size.

Open source

Released under the Apache 2.0 license. You can self-host it. The system design and internals are explained in detail in the documentation.

When it fits, and when it doesn’t

promovolve suits publishers who care about reader privacy and want to choose the ads on their site. For advertisers, it delivers ads in the context of the content.

If you need to maximize fill rate, or rely on user-level features such as retargeting, cross-site frequency capping or brand-lift studies, conventional programmatic advertising is a better fit.
